The 2009 Inaugural running of the Appalachian Mountain Speedweek was a success to both the competitors and the speedways that hosted the event. Outstanding car counts greeted the area’s best late model fans each night, even though the week was plagued by a not so cooperative Mother Nature.
As soon as the ceremony crowning Shinnston, West Virginia’s Josh Richards the inaugural Speedweek Champion ended, the staff went right back to work trying to expand on the success in order to make the 2010 addition better for the tracks, competitors and fans alike. “We met late that night right after the awards were handed out” stated event organizer and Bedford Speedway Promoter J.R. Keifer. “We wanted to discuss something’s while it was still fresh in everybody’s mind. We had a good week and were overall very happy with way things went, but we also targeted some areas that we would like to improve on to make things run even better” added Keifer. “As far as 2010 goes the interest is almost overwhelming. Every single Track and sponsor from the inaugural season stated almost immediately that they wanted to be a part of the 2010 speedweek and the staff is working hard to expand on the sponsorships as far as getting products and extra incentives for the competitors at each race.”
Maryland’s Hagerstown Speedway will once again play host to the first race of the week as the Speedweek takes the green flag on Saturday June 5th, followed by stops at Selinsgrove, Winchester, Williams Grove, Lincoln, Port Royal and Bedford Speedway where the series champion will be crowned on Friday June 11th. The champion will take home the lion’s share of a guaranteed point fund that will pay the top 8 drivers in the weeklong series point standing. Each race will climax with a 40 lap, (50 laps at Winchester Speedway) $5,000 to win feature. Shearer Custom Speed Time Trials will lead into the Keizer Aluminum Wheels qualifying heat races. B-Main(s) will round out the starting line-ups for the night’s main event.
