The family of Charlie Grinestaff in conjunction with Lincoln Speedway is pleased to announce that the June 10th Inaugural Appalachian Mountain Speedweek Event will be known as the Charlie Grinestaff Memorial. The 40 lap Super Late Model feature will now pay the winner a cool $7,000.
In an area known for sprint car racing Charlie Grinestaff spent over 3 decades making a name for himself in full bodied race cars. Charlie started his career in the old flathead jalopies prior to moving into late models. Charlie won the hearts of many fans with his patented hard charges through the field. He quickly became with affection known as “Chargin Charlie” and fans knew that once the green flag waved Chargin Charlie would be on the gas heading for the front. Charlie raced and won all over the East Coast in his illustrious career, but held a special place in his heart for Lincoln Speedway. In 1954, Charlie won the feature at Lincoln in his first ever visit.
Because Charlie was known for his hard chargin style when he took to the speedway, the Grinestaff Family would like to present an added $500 bonus to the hard charger of the 2009 version of the Charlie Grinestaff Memorial.
This will not only be a great & memorible night of racing at lincoln Speedway, but to the winning driver it will be an unbelieveble honor to have a Charlie Grinestaff Memorial win on their resume.
