DICKSON LEADS WIRE TO WIRE FOR SPEEDWEEK VICTORY
With Saturday’s event at the Hagerstown Speedway getting rained out, Selinsgrove Speedway hosted the opening race for the Second Annual Century Link Appalachian Mountain Dirt Late Model Series on Sunday night.
Besting a stellar field of 51 entries, Nick Dickson of Lewistown won $5,000 for his flag-to-flag victory in the 40-lap main event. The win marked the third of Dickson’s career at the track and his second overall this season.
Dickson became the speedway’s second late model feature winner of the season, ending Jeff Rine’s winning streak at five. Jamie Lathroum of Mechanicsville was the night’s fast qualifier with a lap time of 20.562.
At the start of the main event, Dickon powered into the lead from his second starting position. Fourth-place starter Frankie Plessinger and polesitter Steve Campbell chased Dickson in the second and third positions.
When the leaders began to encounter slower traffic by the 12th circuit, Dickson was maintaining a comfortable pace in front of Plessinger, Campbell, sixth-place starter Rick Eckert, and third-place starter Jeremy Miller.
The caution flag unfurled on lap 16 when Coleby Frye’s F1 stopped momentarily in turn four with a front flat tire. On the lap 17 restart, Eckert powered by Campbell for third on the backstretch and passed Plessinger for second a lap later. At the halfway point, Eckert was beginning to reel in Dickson for the lead in traffic and quickly moved within striking distance.
The field was regrouped on lap 29 when DJ Myers’ car blew a tire while racing seventh. On the ensuing restart, Dickson was able to distance himself from Eckert and post a one-second margin of victory over Eckert, last year’s winner Miller, Plessinger, and Campbell.
